Go Dust-Free

A Dust-Free Environment Is Better For Everyone

Dust is so common that we often don’t even think about it, but it can have a serious impact on our health and our business. There’s no such thing as a truly dust-free environment, but with regular cleaning, you can get close enough to see a positive impact.

Dust Is Everywhere

Dust, at its core, is fine particles of solid matter. This can be soil lifted by the wind, or other pollutants in the air that come down with precipitation. Inside buildings, like homes and businesses, it also has dead skin cells that your body naturally sheds. This can be as much as 20-50% of the dust in your home. This is why staying dust-free takes a lot of effort: your own body is always making more of it.

Dust can also be made up of things you’re allergic to, like pollen and pet dander. This makes dust a health issue as well as a cleanliness issue. Neglecting proper cleaning can result in coughing, sneezing, breathing trouble, and lost sleep due to discomfort. In damp, dark places, it can also get fungal spores from mold and mildew, which may be toxic.

Dust Accumulates

Because dust is lightweight, it tends to float in the air, but unless you really neglect your cleaning, you’re unlikely to see so much floating around that it’s visible. Instead, dust ends to gather electrostatic charges that will make it cling to things. Your carpet will attract dust and does a good job of keeping the dust out of the air, up to a point.

It will also get caught in air flow and accumulate around blockages. Computer fans will draw dust into your machines, which can cause them to overheat as they choke the air flow. Your air ducts will draw dust in; a lot will be blown out, but it will gather at vents and around corners in the ducts, creating blockages. If you want to stay dust-free, you’ll have to clean these places regularly.

going dust-free can help you avoid getting sickDon’t Get Sick

Even if you don’t have strong allergies, the dust can still adversely affect your health, both physical and mental. If you breathe in too much dust, it irritates your throat and lungs, which will make you feel sick from coughing, even if you aren’t suffering from any real disease. This can cause sleep issues, which make you more susceptible to real illness. For businesses, this can negatively impact the morale of your employees.

If it gets too bad, it can lead to a psychosomatic illness called Sick Building Syndrome. This condition makes people feel sick just from entering a building. This makes people dislike being there, which will impact their productivity and may drive away customers. Employees will also end up taking more sick days as a result.

All around, it’s bad for everyone.

Go Dust-Free With Duct and Carpet Cleaning

The best way to deal with this is regular cleaning. Dusting and vacuuming will remove a good amount of dust, but for best results, you’ll want to schedule proper duct and carpet cleaning. Your carpet is the biggest gatherer of dust, but there’s only so much it will hold, so you’ll need proper carpet cleaning to remove the ground-in dust that that damages the carpet fibers and makes them less effective.

While you’re planning for this, consider air duct cleaning as well. Modern air ducts will have good filters on them and, as long as you change the filters when necessary, that will take care of most of the problem. Even with the best filters, however, dust will still build up inside your ducts, so we recommend that you have your ducts cleaned out once every 3-5 years. As a bonus, Easy Breezy also has a duct sanitization system we use. Our SaniJet will spray a fine, hospital grade sanitizer that kills bacteria and fungus that may cause disease.

Annual Inspections Help

Things are always breaking down over time, so there’s always something that needs doing. You won’t always be able to tell when something’s wrong, though. You don’t see inside your air ducts, for example. That’s why it’s a good idea to consider an annual home or business inspection. Having professionals come in to examine your building will help you identify what problems should be addressed. This helps with planning and allows you to fix problems before they become serious, which will save you time and money on expensive and difficult repairs.

For homes, you can open cold air returns and air supply vents on the floor and furnace to see if there’s enough dust build up to warrant a cleaning. Furnace maintenance is a must for Logan, which will require a technician to help manage. While they’re inspecting your furnace, they can spot other conditions that might interfere with your HVAC system’s efficiency. This will help take care of problems before they require costly repairs.

Other Cleaning

Fresh air is about more than just your health, sometimes it’s about comfort, too. Have you ever noticed how a smell can linger for days after cooking something? It might even seem to get everywhere in the house. It might have been great at the time, but after a few days, it might just put you off your favorite dish!

Odors can spread throughout the house in a process called “diffusion,” traveling on the air currents around your house. Eventually, the smell is evenly distributed throughout the house. You can try to cover it up with scented candles or potpourri, but those only mask it so well and might also cause allergies for some people. The only way to get rid of it is proper cleaning. Degreasers and vinegar solutions call break apart the molecules that cause these smells to remove the smell.

If you’re too busy, can’t locate the smell, or are just burnt out from preparing all those fancy foods, you might consider looking into a local professional cleaning company. They can help you clean it up, as well as explain ways to keep the smells from becoming a problem in the future.
